Croissants and Pain au chocolat on a plate

Random Acts of Kindness This Sweetest Day

Sweetest Day, to many, has become known as just another greeting card holiday. That has us wondering…what’s wrong with that? Receiving a small gift or card reminds you that someone is thinking of you, which is exactly what the first celebrators of the holiday intended.

The Plain Dealer wrote in 2008 that the holiday originated here in Cleveland in 1922 when candy and small gifts were given to orphans, newsboys, and others in an attempt to spread joy. That sounds like an uplifting tradition to us!

A thoughtful card, a beautiful bouquet, and a decadent box of chocolates are all great ways to remind someone that you’re thinking of them. Another random act of kindness would be to prepare food for someone and, since it’s called Sweetest Day, you might as well make it sweet.
