A Piece of History: The Halle Brothers Geranium

Many Clevelanders can remember trips to Halle Brothers Department Stores many years ago and have many still have fond memories of the trademark Geranium that adorned boxes, bags and signage at the famed Cleveland area department store.

The Halle Bros. Geranium® first became famous on the lapel of Blanche Halle who said that they made her feel happy and optimistic. This beautiful flower quickly became a symbol that represented a Cleveland Landmark. Today, Chris Sherwin keeps this wonderful legacy alive and growing at the Sherwin Family Greenhouse and we are excited to bring this piece of Cleveland history to our customers.

The legacy of the Halle Brothers Department Store lives on as these iconic flowers will be available in limited quantities at select Heinen’s Locations in May. Grown from cuttings of the original Halle Geraniums that we’re grown in Waite Hill, Ohio, this special 10″ inch pots contain 2 flowers per pot. You’ll know the Halle Geranium by its big sturdy and vibrant salmon colored blooms. Expect large blooms and a plant that will grow to as tall as 24 inches. Don’t miss your opportunity to take home a piece of Cleveland History.
