American Heart Month

Each February, the American Heart Association (AHA) shines a spotlight on the number one killer of all Americans – heart disease.

While heart disease is a risk for all Americans, those who are overweight as well as post-menopausal women are even still at greater risk—that is correct, women get heart disease too. In fact, cardiovascular diseases cause one in three women’s deaths each year. That’s approximately one woman every minute! However, there are things you can do to help prevent heart disease, and sometimes even reverse existing conditions associated with heart disease.

According to Heinen’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Todd Pesek, MD, the solutions are simple. And they do NOT come in a pill.

  • Incorporate more Superfoods into your diet
    • Certain superfoods contain rich quantities of omega-3’s, the best source for alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which keeps your heart healthy
    • Omega-3’s help to:
      • Reduce inflammation
      • Reduce risk of arterial disease, high blood pressure and heart attacks
    • Superfood sources of omega-3’s
      • Leafy greens, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, kale, spinach
      • Omega-3 super stars: walnuts, chia seeds and flaxseeds
    • Manage your sugars by minimizing simple sugars and focusing on low-glycemic foods
    • Manage your fats by focusing on Omega-3’s and minimizing all else
  • Increase your Activity
    • Walking
    • Meditation – relaxation lowers heart rate
    • Aerobics
    • Yoga
  • The Magic of Matcha Green Tea Supplement
    • Green Tea is heart healthy and an antioxidant powerhouse
    • Reduces risk of arterial disease, high blood pressure, and heart attacks
