Healthy Easter Basket Swaps

Easter is right around the corner and our little chickies are preparing to find out what goodies are in their Easter baskets! If you’re looking for healthier options for your kids’ Easter basket, then hop along with us! 

Like many parents, I’m always looking for healthier ideas and treats for my kids. I like to be aware of the amount of unnecessary additives and sugar our kids eat. Even on holidays, I don’t think they need to go crazy with food that won’t nourish them. If you have a toddler, it’s a perfect time to set the stage and fill their eggs with real food like apples, grapes, carrots, nuts and other healthy treats. Keep it simple. Remember,  you have to do this every year, and chances are your family will grow and you’ll have multiple baskets to make every year.

Aside from sweet treats, I like to make a themed Easter basket, like sports, gardening, outside activities, summer items, etc. Bathing suits, googles, bubbles, books and sidewalk chalk are all usually a staple in our baskets.

All of the treats and goodies below are perfect for the Easter holiday and for filling your children’s baskets.

Easter Candy Swaps

Little Secrets Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate Pieces

These contain no artificial colors or flavors and ingredients that are fair-trade. These are delicious and your little ones won’t be missing the traditional peanut butter candy! You can find these in the candy and nut aisle at Heinen’s. 

Annie’s Bunny Fruit Snacks

These fruity snacks are organic and contain no high fructose corn syrup, food dyes, artificial flavors or preservatives. They are a cute little addition to an Easter Basket. You can find these in the fruit snack aisle at Heinen’s. 

Skinny Dipped Almonds

Made with dark chocolate which has many health benefits and also less sugar. I try to make dark chocolate a part of our diets because of it’s powerful antioxidants. Skinny Dipped Almonds are also non-GMO which is something I personally always look for. You can find these in the nut aisle at Heinen’s. 

Hu Chocolate

This chocolate has become one of my new favorites! It also contains no palm oil, refined sugar, dairy, gluten, emulsifiers or soy lecithin. This is a huge win! If you’re on a paleo or ketogenic diet, reach for this brand. For your kids, you can break up the squares and put them in Easter eggs or just place the whole bar in the basket.

Torie & Howard Chewie Fruities

If you like to throw a splash of color around your Easter baskets with Starbursts or jelly beans, try this brand instead! They are super juicy and delicious and kids are excited to gobble these up.

This brand also holds ingredients we try to avoid, like high fructose corn syrup and food dyes.

Easter doesn’t have to mean a completely unhealthy day for you and the kids. These simple swaps will keep your Easter on the healthier side without missing out on the fun!
