Wellness is for Everyone

There’s an overwhelming amount of wellness advice in the world today. With so many recommendations, it can be a challenge to understand how to properly incorporate healthy habits into our lifestyles. We understand this, and it’s why we work closely with our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Todd Pesek, M.D. to bring expert advice on holistic wellness to you through in-store seminars, products and weekly wellness tips.

Dr. Todd Pesek, M.D. is not just Heinen’s Chief Medical Officer, he has his own practice, VitalHealth Partners, in Willoughby Hills and Westlake, Ohio where he treats patients with an aim to “promote a caring environment for transformational, holistic healing of people”. Under this mission, Dr. Todd has improved the quality of life for many through holistic wellness techniques including simple dietary changes and supplementation. His success and unique perspective caught the attention of former Cleveland football star Bernie Kosar, who, after several career concussions noticed a decline in health and quality of life.

Over the past several years, Dr. Todd has been on a wellness journey with Kosar to tenaciously restore his physical and mental health. Dr. Todd believes that disease need not exist, but if it does it is from toxicity and trauma, and for Kosar, the physical demands of a football career were the sources of trauma affecting his health and lifestyle. Through dietary changes, incorporation of megadose vitamin supplements, cleanses and detoxification and a decluttering of lifestyle Dr. Todd has been able to help Kosar.

So what can we take away from Dr. Todd and Kosar’s wellness journey to incorporate into our own lives? Dr. Todd has a few simple ideas.

1. Think about food first- Our bodies need sugar and fats, but not those that are refined and processed. By consciously consuming sugars and fats from nutrient-dense superfoods like fruits, veggies and other balanced options, our bodies are nourished and satisfied without addiction to refined and toxic options.

2. Smart Supplementation- While everyone can benefit from Smart Supplementation, for those who have experienced trauma, like Kosar, Dr. Todd recommends megadose vitamin therapy. Similarly, if you consume a diet heavy in carbs and sugars or have experienced physical or mental stress, an increase in the intake of B vitamins can be extremely beneficial.

3. Cleanse and Detoxify- This tip relates both to cleansing our bodies of toxic chemicals, using the tips above, but also cleansing the mind of toxic thoughts. It is not uncommon to develop self-limiting thoughts that create worst case scenarios and self-doubt about achieving health goals. Dr. Todd says these limit our ability to recover from something that is in fact recoverable. He tells his patients to unlock their minds because the mind is the driving factor that will make you well or ill.

4. Declutter Lifestyle- With the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it is easy to become engulfed in an overwhelming lifestyle. This takes a toll on our physical and mental health. As humans, we are designed to be active in nature. The best way to relieve tension is to return to our natural state. By taking small amounts of time in our day to spend time actively in nature, we can slowly begin to declutter our minds and better our physical and mental well-being in the process.

Dr. Todd claims that whether you are a doctor, an athlete or just someone looking to make a difference in your lifestyle, we are all patients that can benefit from similar healthy changes. All it takes is a commitment to simple, yet effective lifestyle changes.
