Here in The Thome Home, salads of all varieties are on constant rotation.  Some may wonder, how in the world have we not gotten sick of eating salad one-to-two times daily? Well, my friends, it’s all in the dressing! A delicious dressing can amplify an ordinary mix of vegetables into a crave-worthy salad.  If you pack your dressing with a multitude of different flavors, you have an awesome base to inspire and create a salad worthy of becoming the star of your dinner table.

Let’s not forget the perks of making a homemade salad dressing: far less fillers and preservatives! Within these three recipes, you will see I use avocado oil as the main base. Feel free to swap that for an extra virgin olive oil and just steer clear of any vegetable or canola oil — go for the good stuff!

Customizable and Simple

We do our best to eat plant-based for five of the seven days of the week. Because of this, salads have become a huge staple in our house to set us up for success and staying on track.  Whether it be an incredible Asian Noodle Salad, loaded with shredded Napa cabbage, herbs and vegetables, a Greek Goddess with tomato, feta, olives and cucumber or our famous Kale & Quinoa Salad with Honey Citrus Vinaigrette, my Shake & Serve Salad Dressings can be paired with a multitude of bases to elevate all of the flavors in your bowl.

A few of our go-to dressings are so simple to make. I like to mix them in major jars prior to my busy week and keep them in the fridge to have on hand when I need a quick salad!

The Shake & Serve Dressing Lineup:

Honey Citrus Vinaigrette:

  • ¼ cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • ¼ cup Avocado Oil
  • ½ cup Heinen’s Orange Juice (no pulp)
  • ¼ cup Heinen’s Organic Honey
  • 1 tsp Kosher Salt
  • ½ tsp Ground Black Pepper
  • ½ Tbsp Garlic Powder

 The Greek:

  • ¼ cup Avocado Oil
  • ½ cup Lemon Juice
  • ½ Tbsp Dry Dill (double if using fresh)
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Kosher Salt
  • ½ tsp Ground Black Pepper
  • 2 cup Greek Yogurt

Asian Zing:

  • ¼ cup Avocado Oil
  • ½ Tbsp Sesame Oil
  • ¼ cup Low Sodium Soy Sauce
  • Juice and Zest of 2 Limes
  • 1 Tbsp Sriracha
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 Tbsp chopped Shallot

Regardless of what dressing you decide to make; the steps are so simple! Place all ingredients listed for that particular recipe into a mason jar with lid, and SHAKE! That’s it! Then, store in the fridge or use immediately on all of your salad creations!
