For more than four decades, Alexander Valley Vineyards has continually produced critically acclaimed, estate bottled wines and much like Heinen’s, family and quality have always been what drives Alexander Valley Vineyards. As one of the premier wineries in Sonoma County we’re proud to have them as one of our Vineyard Partners.
When Maggie and Harry Wetzel purchased a large homestead in Sonoma’s Alexander Valley in the early 1960’s; the area was filled with primarily prune orchards and pastures. The Wetzels planted the first grapes on their property in 1962, among the first in the region, but the first vintage of Alexander Valley Vineyards wine wasn’t released to the public until 1975.
It didn’t take long for Alexander Valley Vineyards to establish a reputation for premium estate-grown wines with distinctive varietal character. Acclaimed for crisp Chardonnay and luscious Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley Vineyards brought recognition and accolades to the appellation and became a leading winery in Sonoma County and California.

Barrel fermentation and aging take place in “The Cave,” a 25,000 square foot space reaching deep into the hillside adjacent to the winery. The Cave provides the cool, constant temperature and high humidity conditions that are ideal for aging wine. In fact, the ambient temperature in the cave varies only about 5 degrees from season to season.
Today, the 3rd generation of the Wetzel Family is active in the winery and continues the family tradition of excellence. In fact, 2016 marks the family’s 54th year on the historic property and the winery’s 41st anniversary.
